About Me

Stephanie Newsom is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist specializing in individual, couples and family therapy, and maintains a private practice in Palo Alto, CA.

Stephanie is an interactive, solution-focused therapist. Her therapeutic approach is to provide support and practical feedback to help clients effectively address personal life challenges. She integrates complementary methodologies and techniques to offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each client. With compassion and understanding, she works with each individual to help them build on their strengths and attain the personal growth they are committed to accomplishing.

Stephanie attended Pacifica Graduate School in Santa Barbara, where Jungian and Depth Psychological approaches are emphasized. After graduation she spent several years interning with the Family Therapy Clinic at the Mental Research Institute, where she learned many approaches to family therapy, including Strategic, Systemic, Brief, and Solution Focused. In addition, Gestalt, Hypnosis, Somatic, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and various ways to treat trauma were studied and practiced. She is currently serving as private practitioner working with a broad spectrum of clients. She has worked with many families through the San Mateo County ACCESS program, which was a very rewarding way to learn about immigration and assimilation issues and how they affect the family.

She has been married for 29 years and has three grown children. Her hobbies include playing piano (rock, blues, tango and musical theatre), windsurfing, and backpacking.
